Consolidated Communications Enterprise Services Installation and Maintenance Technician in Simla, Colorado

Major DutiesClassification: Non-Exempt/Non-BargainingPay range: $17.00 - $20.00 per hourUsing intermediate/advanced level of knowledge to perform all work functionsrelated to the installation, service, and maintenance of voice, and/ordata equipment and services from the Central Office to both Residential andbusiness customer premises. Platform for delivery of services may be Fiber orCResponsibilitiesWith limited supervision, perform work involving the installation,service, maintenance, and repair of both inside and outside plant,voice, and data communications services.Drives company vehicle to work site or other locations within service area.Participates in rotational "primary on call" responsibility, acceptingand responding to after-hours customer trouble report and installationrequirements. Will be required to work overtime based on business needs. Willbe required to respond during emergency situations even when not on call.Using general knowledge is proficient in the use of test equipment includingthe Optical Power Meter, Fluke volt/ohm meter, Telephone Test Set,Toners, OTDR/TDR and Underground Cable Locator, Lenovo laptop, JDSU.Is certified to use ladders.Adheres to company safety policies and practices. Attends required safety andtraining classes, and maintains a satisfactory safety record.Reports to work on time and maintains a satisfactory attendance record.QualificationsTechnical/Professional Knowledge: Knowledge of equipment and stepsrelated to the installation service and maintenance of voice, and/or dataat customer sites. Must possess good organizational skills and be able tocommunicate clearly and effectively with co-workers and the general public.Must maintain a neat appearance in accordance with Company policy. Ability tolearn quickly.Training preferred: PC Proficiency with Microsoft products in windows-basedapplication.Work experience: 0-1 year of applicable installation and maintenanceexperience and some prior exposure to the telecommunications or cable industrypreferred.License required: A valid driver's license and a satisfactory drivingrecord is required. A DOT physical will be required for technicians drivingtrucks that are over 10,001 GVW.General education or equivalent: High school diploma or equivalent,(GED). Associates degree preferred.Physical Demands: Significant time is spent standing, walking,bending, stooping, crouching, and using ladders and other relatedequipment. Lifting up to 100 pounds, occasionally above shoulder required.Use of computers and computer-related equipment required. This position alsoinvolves fine hand coordination. Must be able to discern dial tone and staticon telephone lines. Must be able to discern hazardous materials and have depthperception to climb ladders. Must be able to discern color coded cables andfiber optics. Must be able to carry on telephone and radio conversations. Musthave the ability to access, input and retrieve information from thecomputer. Employees cannot exceed the manufacturers' weight limitation forthe equipment required to perform the duties and responsibilities of this job. Must be able to access utility poles, underground vaults.Environmental Conditions: Work is split about equally between indoors, inair-conditioned/heated areas, with exposure to low noise levels; andoutdoors in conditions of possible extreme cold, heat or humidity; and industy, dirty conditions with inadequate lighting and cramped space.
