The Resource Nurse is a specialized role which admits and discharges patients from multiple units. The primaryresponsibility of this role is to assure smooth patient throughput. He/she also acts as a resource for the AdministrativeManagers and nursing staff, to assist in providing staff breaks and implementation of the physician’s orders in collaborationwith the nursing staff. The Resource Nurse may be asked to work as a staff RN in an unusual staffing situation in which noother resource is available.

3 years experience ICU nursing required5 years plus experience preferredDemonstrated ability to use critical thinking skills to prioritize work and problem solveDemonstrated flexibility and collegiality to ensure excellent teamwork on units in which he/she is working
Current Colorado RN License required
Job Responsibilities (essential functions identified with a * )Demonstrates ability to improve patient throughput metrics by expedient admission and discharge process. Expert at completion of admission and discharge information- both electronic and paper; and acts as a resource to otherslearning the process.Ensures thorough medication reconciliation is completed and understood by each patient. Demonstrated ability to ensure patients and families have necessary depth of understanding of disease process, medications,and treatment plans. *Assists in improvements to quality measures such as CAUTI, CLABSI, HAPU, VAPs, etc. whenever applicable. *Demonstrates accountability for patient care during the admission process, until a complete and accurate facility prescribedhandoff process is completed by receiving patient care RN. *Partners with the Nursing leadership to identify where RN Acute Care Resource services are needed throughout the hospitalduring each shift. *Utilizes relationship based care philosophy to listen to patients and families and use them as a resource during the admissionprocess and throughout their stay, including discharge.Demonstrates superior customer service skills at all times. Sees self as “servant leader” serving other staff and departments for the benefit of patients. *Fosters high level of morale, achievement, and teamwork on any unit worked. *Able to see the “big picture”, think critically and collaboratively. *Role models flexibility and accountability. *Achieves cost savings by decreasing both individual and overall nursing end of shift overtime through efficient careprocesses..Works within budgeted FTE. Looks for opportunities for cost savings and communicates such with his/her direct supervisor. *Contributes to hospital growth goals by expediting care processes, which result in enhanced community perception orexpeditious service, fewer cases of “Left Without Being Seen” (LWBS) in the ED, shortened ED stays, and increased availableinpatient beds.
