Position Overview:

Designs, implements and evaluates clinical systems for reducing and/or controlling length of stay, costs and/or resource consumption, ensuring maintenance or improvements in patient outcomes. Functions as a leader in health care and as a part of the health care team. Responsible for the coordination of the Case Management Unit functions. Responsible for the preparation and management of the unit's budget in cooperation with the Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Administrator Patient Care Services. Responsible for development and coordination of unit QA activities. Responsible for proper utilization of Human Resources.

Essential Functions:

a) Assumes responsibility and accountability for clinical and financial operations of a Case Management system.

b) Provides hospital-wide leadership through effective managerial and educational direction in the areas of Resource Management, timely movement of patients through a continuum, DRG Financial Analysis, Change Management, Managed Care, Guidelines/Protocols and Systems Improvement.

c) Assures that the unit has an integrated process which will coordinate healthcare delivery across service lines.

Qualifications & Skills:

a) Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program.

b) Training & Experience: A minimum of 3 years recent acute care experience required and 3-5 years nursing management/case management preferred. Must be BCLS certified.

c) Job Knowledge: Encompasses a wide range managed care concepts and strategies and knowledge of the DRG reimbursement system. Must be capable of converting DRG and Physician Practice pattern data into information which quantifies impact on cost and quality. Must have excellent knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid and Third Party admission and concurrent review.
