SALARY: $1,585.38 - $2,342.93 Biweekly$41,219.88 - $60,916.18 AnnuallyOPENING DATE: 6/23/20CLOSING DATE: ContinuousDIVISION:DEPARTMENT: Sheriff's OfficePURPOSE:Under general supervision, performs specialized law enforcement work on anassigned shift in the care and security of inmates in an assigned area of theCounty detention facility. Work involves monitoring security andinmate/detainee movement within the facility and supervisinginmate/detainee activity, including meals, razors, medications,commissary, laundry exchange and work assignments. Work also involvespreparing various reports and logs, maintaining security during visitationand advising inmates as needed. Employee is also responsi ble for operatingcomputer and surveil lance monitors. Employee is subject to the usualhazards of contact with jail inmates and detainees.This is a non-sworn position within the Sheriff's Office and does notrequire POST certification.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Attends assigned area in the detention facility, monitoring the security ofdoors and maintaining order and security of the facility at all times,ensuring adherence to established laws, regulations, policies andprocedures, and supervises inmate/detainee activity as scheduled,including meals, razors, medications, commissary, laundry exchange andwork assObserves and reports on inmate/detainee behavior; enforces rules andregulations in maintaining custody of inmates; and observes inmates'demeanor to determine mental state and possible need for treatment and/orcloser observa tion.Reviews logs and reports from previous shift; maintains knowledge ofinmate/detainee population and cell as signments; and prepares variousreports and logs, including body/face count logs, razor logs,visitation logs, incident reports, etc.Controls inmate/detainee movement in the facility through control of doorsand elevators; directs inmates through use of intercoms; and monitorsmovement of inmates released from housing modules to attend programs orvisitation through CCTV monitoring and intercom control.Monitors locations of medical and counseling staff to ensure their safety.Supervises visitation of inmates; assists visitors; inspects items broughtto jail for inmates; and screens and monitors persons seeking access tosecure areas within the jail.Directs the delivery of food carts to appropriate modules and eatinglocations. Observes inmates during meals, showers and work detail.Communicates with inmates, giving information and directions, mediatingdisputes, and advising of rights and processes; listens to inmates'com plaints; and resolves inmates' conflicts and problems.Monitors Sheriff's complex fire alarms and makes necessary notification whenactivated.Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and various database programs toenter, store and/or retrieve information on inmates.QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent (GED)Minimum age 18 years oldMust be able to pass basic jail operation training.Preferred Qualifications / Attributes (not required):Sixty semester or ninety quarter hours from an accredited college/university.Active volunteer work in your local community.Ability to speak a second language.Honorable military serviceLaw enforcement preparation to include criminal justice classes, jailtours, study of law enforcement publications, etc.Each applicant must be willing to submit to:Written testingOral interviewsPolygraph examBackground investigation to include a criminal, driving, reference,work, and credit history checksMedical exam (job specific testing)Psychological examRequired to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidaysFor Additional Info please visit our website @ http://jeffco.us/sheriff/
