Larimer County Human Resources Child Protection - Social Caseworker II in Fort Collins, Colorado

OverviewLarimer County Department of Human Services is seeking creative professionalswho want to provide solid casework and a solution focus approach to familiesinvolved with child protection. The purpose of Child Protection Services isto assess safety and risk factors that contribute to child abuse/neglect,develop plans and refer to appropriate resources working as a team withfamilies, children, supports, service providers and courts-whennecessary-to address the safety and risk, ensure extensive casedocumentation in a computer database is accurate including court reports,establish permanency and well being for children which may include biologicalparents, traditional and non-traditional kinship, and adoption. Dutiesinclude advocating for families and children, testifying in court,removing children from their home, de-escalating potentially volatilesituations, discussing in detail and working with families who struggle withsubstance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, multi-generationalpoverty, child abuse/neglect and sexual abuse. Hours vary and do notadhere to a strict 9 to 5 schedule. While the hours can be long, and attimes unpredictable, working with families can be a rich and rewardingexperienDetailsLarimer County Department of Human Services is looking for a candidate withthe ability to communicate professionally in person and in writing in order toverify the efforts made to identify concerns and help families work to resolvethem. This includes testifying in Court if needed and diving deep withconnections to families to try and avoid out of home placement and/orstranger care. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is willingto be accountable through documentation. There are state mandates thatrequiring that the hard work of both the caseworker and the family aredocumented through extensive paperwork requirements. This role requirescommitment to completing a thorough assessment of children's safety whichincludes having difficult, truthful, and extensive conversations withmultiple people in one given case until safety is established. It alsoinvolves assessing allegations of abuse/neglect, referring clients toappropriate services, collaborating with Law enforcement, schools,medical personnel, mental health agencies, the courts and providers caring forSocial Caseworkers work on child abuse or neglect cases and have decisionmaking authority for developing appropriate case/treatment plans for childsafety, permanency and well being. They deliver or provide direct servicesto children and families and must work effectively with individuals andfamilies under stress and difficult circumstances and with persons fromdiverse backgrounds. Individuals in this role will discuss, in detail, andwork with families who are dealing with substance abuse, mental health,domestic violence, multigenerational poverty, child abuse, child neglectand sexual abuse. The Social Caseworker II will coordinate resources for childprotection, parent/child conflict, permanency planning, andconcurrent planning.
