This is a senior level position that possesses a variety of technical skills related to the planning of support and logistics for science-related projects throughout the Arctic, including international locations. You will manage the science planning process supporting the NSF’s researchers and scientists. You will assist the researchers with their project logistics and estimates in preparation for their field work each year to continue their successful missions. The Arctic Projects - Science Planning Manager: • Plans all science related activities (through individual science planners) including pre-deployment preparation, specialty training, air, sea, land logistics, deployment, scientist subsistence requirements, data / sample collection, post deployment activities and out briefs. • Works with Operations Manager and Science Support Managers to coordinate Arctic operations and science projects. • Provides direction to Alaska and Greenland Science planning staff. • Provides expertise in field logistics to assist Science Planners. • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others. May assign and review work to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness. • Understands and applies the principles of risk management to project work. Serves as a technical resource for project delivery. • As a project manager, able to manage mid-size projects. • Oversees project planning process including development of the NSF-approved science project scopes/budgets. • Manage full-time planning team. • Leads proposal assistance, review, and tracking process. • Assists with development annual budgets and reports. • Facilitates communication with PIs and science community. • Oversees science project feedback and improvement process.

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • BS or MS within applied sciences, planning, logistics, or related field.

  • 10 years project management experience.

  • Has an understanding of National Science Foundation grant funding system.

  • This position to be based in Denver, CO.

  • This position requires travel for work assignments.

  • May be required to pass NSF required medical and dental check and drug screen.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Person already residing a commutable distance from our Englewood, CO office is preferred

  • 10 or more years’ experience preferred.

  • Experience managing science field projects is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with logistics and air support planning is highly desirable.

  • Work experience in remote and cold environments is preferred.

  • This position requires travel to remote field sites and other locations for work assignments for two-week or more periods of time periodically throughout the year.
