POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Corporate Accountant will be responsible for a variety of monthly accounting functions relating to Alterra Mountain Company resorts, including performing advanced accounting tasks, and assisting management in the general review of work performed by accounting staff. This role will serve as an individual contributor, as well as in a review capacity of staff work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Responsibilities

  • Assist in the monthly accounting process:

  • Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by accounting staff

  • Assist team members in resolving issues as they arise, and escalate issues appropriately to management

  • Calculate and post journal entries as required

  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities

  • Empower direct reports to take responsibility for their jobs and goals, delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback

  • Provide accounting support and resolutions directly to corporate departments, focusing on continuous process improvements that are mutually beneficial

  • Provide support to the financial reporting and FP&A groups, including actual and budget variance analysis

  • Monitor transactional compliance with GAAP as well as company policies and procedures

  • Coordinate, prepare, and review interim and year end audit documentation as requested; provide support and explanations for account balances and transactions

  • Ad-hoc projects including financial analysis, system implementations, and technical accounting research

  • Other duties as required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 4-year degree required; advanced degree preferred

  • CPA or CMA preferred

  • 5 or more years of accounting related experience

  • Public accounting experience preferred

  • SOX experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge

  • Must possess and in-depth working knowledge of GAAP, month end close processes, general and operational accounting, budgeting and forecasting, and financial reporting

  • Proficient with ERP systems

  • Working knowledge of D365 and Hyperion Financial Management a plus

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to effectively interact with all levels throughout the organization

  • Success at building relationships and collaborating cross-functionally across the organization

  • High attention to detail and accuracy, and able to work under minimal supervision

  • Proven ability to independently resolve issues and recommend process improvements

  • Team player that will approach challenges in a high-pressure environment with enthusiasm

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Alterra Mtn Co Shared Services Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Alterra Mtn Co Shared Services Inc.’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Denver area base salary range: $63,000 - $95,000 per year
