Posting Details Posting Number S00017 Position Title Mentor/Tutor Position Number Student Hourly or Student Work-Study Hourly Wage$15.00 EmployeeCategory Student Department Upward Bound - High School Location Enrollment Management (Division) Position SummaryMSU Denver's TRIO Upward Bound Program (TRIO), is currently seekingmentor/tutors to support students that attend six Denver Public Schools:Abraham Lincoln High School, East High School, Manual High School, NorthHigh School, West Early College, and West Leadership Academy who are firstgeneration high school students (first in their family to attendcollege), with a desire to attend college.TRiO's Fall 2020 semester will focus on online mentoring and tutoring incore subjects as needed, i.e., English, Social Studies, ForeignLanguage, Math or Science. (You will only tutor students in subjects youare competent in). Additionally, you will assist the Assistant Directorand other core staff with the planning and facilitation of program activitiesand workshops and provide some data entry and administrative support. Duties/Responsibilities*Tutor students in general high school subjects (including small-group andindividual tutoring)*Maintain an environment conducive to learning, including keeping computerscreen on, minimizing background noise, and ensuring professional andappropriate tutor/participant interactions.*Assess and monitor students' progress in tutoring sessions and one's owntutoring skills*Pass on knowledge, insights, and expertise about college preparation*Serve as a role model for participants, demonstrating integrity andaccountability*Assist students in developing effective study skills and setting goals*Collaborate with instructors during classes; assist in classroom management*Actively listen, provide information, encouragement, and guidance to students*Communicate regularly with students during tutoring, keeping them on-task*Report regularly to specified admin staff regarding students' progress andneeds*Chaperone participants during local field trips and/or assist witheducational workshops (post COVID 19)*Track daily attendance and homework progress and completion*Input tutoring and contact notes into student database*Attend required trainings and weekly staff meetings and daily staff check-ins RequiredQualifications**MUST BE A STUDENT ENROLLED AT AN APPROVED COLORADO HIGHER EDUCATIONINSTITUTION***Content knowledge in at least one of the following areas: math, languagearts, science, and other academic content areas*Demonstrate commitment to serving high-need urban youth and families*Ability to work with diverse populations, including being sensitive to thediverse needs, learning styles, and abilities of Upward Bound students*Commitment to participate for a full academic year*Ability to work at least 2 days a week, Monday-Thursday 3:00-6:30 p.m.and occasional Fridays and Saturdays for field trips and student engagement(mostly post COVID 19)*Current student enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours*College sophomore, junior, or senior standing is preferred, althoughqualified freshman applicants will be considered.*Remain in good academic and judicial standing at higher institution*Initiative, punctuality, dependability, discipline, and self-confidence*Excellent oral and written communication skills*Ability to motivate and encourage youth*Ability to maintain confidentiality*Have working computer,
