IT Release Manager

Colorado Springs Utilities Information Technology department is hiring a Release Manager who will be responsible for planning and coordinating the movement of releases for systems through development, test, QA to production environments. In this job, you will be instrumental in ensuring that the integrity of the production environment is protected and that the correct components are released on schedule.

In this vitally challenging role, you will have the opportunity to apply your Release Management expertise in planning and managing work to safeguard the integrity of the releases with a focus on understanding and meeting business needs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third party applications, or operating system updates

  • Manage risk and resolve issues related to the release quality, scope or schedule

  • Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews

  • Negotiate, Plan, Measure, and monitor progress, to include test runs, to ensure application releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations

  • Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations

  • Maintains the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across key partners and vendors

  • Develops scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms

  • Maintains a release repository and manages key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists

  • Researches new software development and configuration management methodologies and technologies and analyzes their application to current configuration management needs

  • Define and coordinate IT Quarterly Maintenance Window (QMW) plans and communications

  • Embrace change management and lead process improvement efforts to support our new service model

  • Planning and Documenting of future maintenance schedules

  • Work within the ITIL framework to ensure standards and procedures are being adhered to throughout the entire change process

  • Consistent planning and status meetings and communicating with stakeholders and liaise with Change Management

What will it take to be successful as a Release Manager? Highly qualified candidates will bring a minimum of six years IT experience, providing expertise in release coordination and release management, including hands-on experience successfully managing projects (solid understanding of project management principles and aptitude with project management tools preferred). Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.

Additional skills we seek:

  • Advanced knowledge and best practices of ITIL software development lifecycle

  • Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion and set deadlines

  • Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a must

  • Experience in information systems operations environment in systems analysis or development
