The Copywriter I – Creative Services position exists to support the copywriting discipline for the in-house creative team by crafting brand-aligned messaging that engages current constituents and drives new acquisitions from younger generations through cultivation, marketing, and product promotional campaigns. Because the in-house creative team operates cross-departmentally, the Jr. Copywriter will successfully prioritize a variety of projects and deliverables with humility, excellence, and timeliness. Effectiveness requires the ability to generate ideas, think strategically, and pay attention to details. The copywriting team ensures consistency and accuracy of grammar and brand voice as messaging is applied across many of the Focus’ touchpoints, including email campaigns, cultivation tracks, digital and print marketing efforts, ad copy, and event promotion.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Creates concise, compelling, and original messaging that delivers on-brand and on-strategy, inspires, and motivates people to engage with the ministry more deeply

Works collaboratively with other creative, research, marketing, cultivation, and digital team members to develop creative work

Supports the Creative Team’s efforts to develop internal program and constituent cultivation communication

Develops a working understanding of key ministry initiatives and objectives, the constituents we serve, and the donors who support us, to connect messaging strategies to intended outcomes

Develops a robust understanding of the Focus on the Family mission, brand, and voice, translates this understanding across platforms aligning communication efforts with content consumption preferences to elicit deep constituent engagement

Communicates how copy aligns with target audience, key messaging, desired outcome, and master brand

Provides bullet-proof, error-free proofreading services for all marketing materials

Keeps apprised and knowledgeable of current messaging and creative trends and innovations

Is available to assist in new concept brainstorming as opportunities ariseOther Duties/Responsibilities:

Assists in overall department initiatives such as creative training, branding exercises, research, etc.

Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works for distribution in any and all media and formats on a world-wide basis, all of which shall be for the benefit of Focus on the FamilyManagerial Breadth/Scope of Job:

General creative work and input in overall creative efforts and process.Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

Fast-paced office environment with frequently changing priorities.

Balance the tension of managing legacy initiatives, then switching gears to support new initiatives with very tight turns

Job Qualifications / RequirementsCharacter/Spiritual:

Creative and forward-thinkingKnowledge/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Strategic Communication-related major (Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing), or equivalent experience

1-3 years of writing experience on digital, print, or social channels (Work in a design studio, in-house creative team, or creative agency environment a plus)

Strong portfolio showing writing and concepting ability, showing how projects aligned with target audiences, key messaging, and strategic outcomes, in a variety of channelsSkills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts:

Exceptional copywriting, editing, research, and ideation skills

Ability to confidently present and champion ideas and recommendations

Ability to review other writers’ work to ensure high quality

Ability to interact with clients and receive and understand client direction

Ability to collaborate with design and marketing teammates on creative projects of varying sizes and scope

Can work well under time pressure, ability to manage numerous objectives, projects, and/or activities at the same time

Pay Range:$19.61 to $23.47/hr.
