L3 Applied Defense Solutions currently has an opening for an Aerospace Engineer at our Colorado Springs, Colorado location.

KEY ROLE:

The Aerospace Engineer will be a member of a dynamic engineering team developing cutting edge systems for the space industry. Interested parties should expect to support satellite space situational awareness (SSA) activities. The main role of this candidate will be to operate orbit determination and satellite characterization systems utilizing data from a variety of surveillance phenomenology (radar, passive RF, optical). Analytical prediction requires use of analytical tools, similar to Freeflyer, STK and MATLAB to calculate orbit trajectories, maneuvers, and to establish design reference missions. An ideal candidate will have experience supporting operational satellite missions; particularly geostationary.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 5 years of experience in Spacecraft Systems engineering or 5 years of Spacecraft Operations experience

  • Experience in requirements development and management, space vehicle operations, payloads, or mission operations

  • Experience evaluating and implementing new and state-of-the-art technology to address challenging customer problems

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • B.S. degree in Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Computer Science, or related discipline

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Work with aggressive timelines, in a team environment with a willingness to learn and grow

  • Previous experience working US Air Force, Department of Defense (DoD), or Intelligence Community (IC)

  • Experience with satellite mission planning or analysis in all regimes, particularly geostationary

  • Leading specific trade and root cause analysis studies that drive system development.

  • Experience with astrodynamics modeling tools such as COTS (STK, ODTK, FreeFlyer), GOTS (GMAT, USAF Astro Standards), open source (Orekit), or custom software (e.g. Matlab, Python).

  • Spacecraft Operations Training or Exercise management experience.
