Nature of Work
The Data Science to Patient Value (D2V, cud2v.org) Program is seeking a Software Development Professional for a temporary 8 month position. D2V is a multidisciplinary research initiative that focuses on Big Data methods, their applications to medicine and health care delivery, and ultimately, the achievement of high value health patient-centered health care. The mission of the Informatics core is to create and sustain access to high-value data assets that are discoverable, accessible, and reliable, by providing informatics expertise and tools to facilitate research in data sciences and discovery.
The Software Development Professional will be expected to work independently and in collaboration with other members of D2V. They will provide professional and scientifically rigorous data software development expertise to D2V initiatives and scientific projects. This may include designing and testing software, processing workflows, tool development, data management, data integration and person level linkages, and data/metadata repositories. The Software Development Professional will also be expected to develop solutions to challenges that arise for D2V cores and projects and disseminate results to a variety of audiences with varying levels of data informatics expertise.
This position performs a variety of complex tasks and requires thorough knowledge of desktop and web-based application programming tools and techniques. It also requires superb communication and customer service skills.

As a key member of a critical team within D2V, this position encompasses a wide variety of responsibilities. Some specific examples include:
As a software developer:
Develop, write, test, and debug software systems and databases according to software development best practices.
Create requirement, design and testing documentation as necessary to support complex software development efforts.
Create system and software technical designs as well as implement improvements to existing user interfaces, web services, reports, etc.
Actively keep abreast of technical trends in IT and Research Informatics, surfacing ideas for technical direction, system improvements, and new service opportunities.
As a team member:
Track and resolve technical support requests from users.
Conduct code reviews on the development efforts of other programmers.
Consult with team members and other developers on bugfixes and optimal software designs.
Meet with customers and team members to review outstanding requests for system enhancements and fixes, prioritize them, and agree upon plans to complete them.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Superb communication and customer service skills working with non-technical users and stakeholders
Ability and willingness to work as a team member with other software developers
Ability to work with a high degree of independence and latitude
Exceptional skills in object-oriented software development and data modeling
Proficiency in JAVA software development, debugging, and troubleshooting
Knowledge of graph theory and multi-threading software development
Experience in Python, SQL, JSON
Experience using Cloud Systems: Google Cloud Platform and Google BigQuery
Experience with software development lifecycle tools: GitHub
Experience creating documentation and testing procedures
